Matt’s Red Rooster

Matt’s Red Rooster celebrated their 15th anniversary late last year, and if you’re reading this post and live in New Jersey, you probably know about this incredible spot. Matt and Erin McPherson serve some of the best contemporary American food in the region right here on Bloomfield Ave in a beautifully restored Victorian built in 1900. All of that being said, the quarantine has undoubtedly put a strain on the restaurant.⠀

Like every other restaurant, Matt’s Red Rooster Grill quickly had to pivot to curbside carryout only. Matt told me he ordered more takeout containers three weeks ago than he had in the past five years… and he needs to order more already. Transitioning from sub 2% total carryouts to 100% is no easy feat, but everything seems to be going relatively smoothly.⠀

There’s some concern on the horizon as the supply chain for every restaurant has faced major amounts of stress. It’s not as easy to get the top notch product that the restaurant relies on to make such delicious meals. “Our orders with our vendors have been getting shorted and or subbed with different product which makes it hard for us to manage. We will get through this, and are so happy that we are able to keep our staff working.”⠀

Every week Matt’s has featured a different local business alongside their food with giveaways. Hardy’s Coffee BarFlemington Floral Company & Greenhouses, Inc. and Attachments & Sage have all been featured.

The weekly menu comes out on Monday. Orders can be placed starting then for pickup Thursday – Sunday from 430p-630p. All orders must be in by 2p same day. Check their facebook page or website for more details.⠀

“I can only hope that this brings our town closer together and people can look to there left and right and find the LOVE that is out there. Sometimes you just need to look a little harder as it is not always the first thing you will see.”
