The Irving Inn can usually be described as one of Rahway’s most popular restaurants with amazing seasonal food, a bustling bar scene and live music on the weekends. Recent events have caused a dramatic slowdown in small businesses across the state, but don’t worry, the food at the Irving Inn is still delicious. The lively bar scene and weekend music have been replaced with cocktail baskets and delivery with a smile. Owners Jesse Speno and Joanie Zyla have had to rethink their business strategy in order to keep things up and running after NJ governor Phil Murphy banned all dine-in service. Within two days the Irving team had implemented a new game plan which included a revamped menu that was both delivery and take-out friendly.
“Chef Lawerence, along with the Irving girls and myself, tried to develop something that included customer favorites along with some new sandwiches and daily specials”Owner Jesse Speno
The Irving Inn’s take-out menu proves that you can have delicious restaurant quality dishes at home. Their signature crab fries show up still crispy, and the steak frites is cooked perfectly to order. As if that isn’t impressive enough, Irving is also delivering bottles of wine, domestic and craft beer, as well as cocktail making baskets.
Inspired by customers requests for their signature Irving Old Fashion, Speno got an idea. Since they weren’t able to make cocktails for their customers, why not enable them to make their favorites at home.
“We decided these DIY cocktail baskets could be a fun way to meet the needs of our customers”SPENO
You can order a mimosa basket, with two champagne flutes included, or an Old Fashion basket with all the ingredients you need and a rocks glass.
Although The Irving Inn has figured out how to make take out and delivery work, they look forward to getting back to normal. Bartender Paola Pinzon Says, “It’s amazing how many customers have been ordering and it’s great to briefly see them but I can’t wait to be back behind the bar serving them their favorite cocktails.” And when things get back to normal this is definitely a place you should visit, but until then their delivery and take-out menu is a pretty delicious substitution.
